Within the town itself there are plenty of activities to keep you busy in case you want have a day free of travelling. If you’re into sporting events, Ashburton has a superb hockey facility, as well as excellent tennis courts and golf courses. Those who love water sports can also go rowing or water skiing at LakeHood, a five minute drive away.
If you want to take in some culture and history, Ashburton has a lot to offer. There is a great range of museums in and around the town, including the Vintage Car Museum, the Plains Railway and Historical Village, the Lynn Historical Woodworking Trust and the Aviation Museum. There are also several options for getting up into the sky, from hot air ballooning to flying in an open cockpit biplane.
